I'm Lorraine and have been on the board of LifeRing Secular Recovery for three years now. During my first year, I was on the training and development committee so led the plans for the 2018 annual conference in Denver, Colorado where I live. We had a successful event with around 60 LifeRing members and other interested parties. At that meeting I was asked to be the board chair which I agreed to as long as there could be a co-chair so that I could continue my work with the Colorado Behavioral Health Planning and Advisory Council. This is an organization that works to help determine how and where state funds are allocated for SUD and mental health services. For the last two years as LifeRing board co-chair, my work has been in an administrative oversight capacity, including creating monthly board agendas, tracking the status of board projects and dealing with people related issues that sometimes arise. I am an HR professional by trade so that comes in handy there.
June 17th will be the 6th anniversary of my last drink which led to a DUI (even though I wasn't driving) and more importantly, my realization that I must find a recovery community where I could create a long-term sobriety plan and actually follow it. I thank LifeRing Secular Recovery for that! Currently, I convene an online meeting on Sunday evenings.
